Name: Jewelry Appreciation Guild Of Utah. Descripton:People have always been fascinated with jewelry even prehistorically. In the civilized world, it is documented to have begun about 5,000 years ago in the Indian subcontinent. Modern jewelry making has placed jewelry within the economic grasp of a much larger segment of the population and new technology has led to a vastly increased variety of styles. That women love to adorn themselves with jewelry much to the delight of men is so much a part of the human experience that we dare to say that the extend of its certainty is almost comparable to that of death and taxes. Our organization, however, does not advocate the glorification of beautiful jewelry. Like anything else of earthly beauty, we believe that beautiful jewelry should be enjoyed but not exalted. Enjoyment of beauty is a human characteristic with which God has generously endowed us. As the English poet, John Keats, said in his famous poem Endymion: "A thing of beauty is a joy forever."There are many things of beauty in this world. Confucius even went so far as to say: "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone can see it." The beauty of jewelry is plain to see and to appreciate. It entrances and delights us. Our guild is opening its doors in October, 2015 for jewelry enthusiasts. We will give such people the opportunity to learn about the past and present status of jewelry and jewelry making, especially, in regard to precious gemstones. Highly regarded gemologists and jewelers will serve as our lecturers. We will also give our members a chance to talk about their own collections of jewelry, especially, those pieces that have particularly interesting facts and stories related to them. We will meet once a month; a potluck luncheon will follow the program. To share an appreciation for beautiful jewelry and to form endearing friendships are the reasons for the Jewelry Appreciation Guild of Utah being organized. Please call Mara at 801-577-7369 for further information.
