Name: The Community Coop. Descripton:The Community Co-op started as "The Community Food Co-op of Utah" in January of 2006. It was supported by Crossroads Urban Center who operates one of the busiest emergency food pantries in Utah. Two of the Crossroads Staff recognized an opportunity for Utah families and individuals to pool their money and purchase healthy produce without needing to use the pantry. In January of 2012, due to financial difficulties, The Community Food Co-op of Utah was about to close its doors. Volunteers and members were told about the impending closure and many were saddened. One member and her husband decided to step in to rescue their beloved Co-op. With the help of investors, The Community Food Co-op of Utah was purchased and became simply The Community Co-op. Since the change, The Community Co-op has continued to evolve. The warehouse continues to offer a year-round indoor farmers market on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. The number of delivery locations has grown to include popular local parks. In August of 2012, a weekly delivery was offered at many of the sites. Now members can get fresh local Utah produce and other products more often and in more convenient locations. We now have almost two dozen active distribution sites, many of which are original distribution sites and are still in operation. In September of 2013, we began to offer a new service: home delivery. For a small delivery fee of $5, anyone (not just our members) can have our fresh, local produce, meats, and food products delivered right to their door. While this option does have slightly higher prices than our park delivery sites which focus on food security, it is still a fantastic value. Not only is our food cheaper and more convenient than a grocery store, but the money from the home delivery helps to subsidize our food security arm. Your participation in this great deal literally helps other people keep fresh food on their table.
