Name: Guitar Lessons With Sam Cottrell. Descripton:Lessons are taught: Monday 4PM - 8PM, Friday between noon at 6pm and Saturday from 11AM til 3PM, by appointment. Sam has been playing the guitar for 27 years and teaching for 15. He has studied guitar at Utah State University and been a working musician in Utah for 14 years. $85 per month for 4 - 30 minute lessons. I recommend starting kids out no earlier than 8 or 9 unless they have excelled at piano or another classical instrument that requires them to read music. I teach beginners to advancing students, from 8 to adults. My credentials include 2 years with Mike Christiansen at USU, a degree in audio production and engineering from the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences, performances with Jim Peterik of Survivor and Carment Rasmussen of American Idol fame (season 2), clinics with Steve Morse, Buzz Feiten, Dave LaRue, Ray Reindeau, Mike Stern, Tommy Emmanuel, and Corey Christiansen, opening for the Young Dubliners, performing at the 2002 Olympics and a variety of festivals, and is currently working with the Irish Rock band Swagger. My approach is to balance what motivates students with what they need to know. I am fully versed in music theory, extensive guitar techniques and styles (including classical, jazz, rock, and country), and I believe that students should not only be able to play their favorite songs but understand the concepts behind them. I am also setting up a group Ukulele class, so contact me to get on the list and give me your scheduling preferences.
