Personal, individualized instruction is extremely important in a student's success. The average class size in Utah is 29, which means that public school teachers simply don't have the time to give your student the type of personalized instruction that would benefit them the most. For just $5, you can schedule a 15 minute, one-on-one, tutoring session.
How it works: I will reserve tutoring rooms at the Downtown City Public Library (210 E 400 S) every Thursday from 6-8 pm, and Saturday from 10-12 am. You contact me in advance (435-851-4979, email@example.com) to schedule a time. You send me some background information on your student (age, grade level, specific subject areas that need attention, their learning style, etc.) We meet on the 3rd floor of the Library at the designated time and I spend 15 minutes answering your student's questions and giving them personalized instruction. In an effort to help the refugee population in Salt Lake, any member of a refugee family can schedule one appointment per week absolutely free.
My background: I earned my B S in Biology, minoring in Chemistry. I am currently working on an M A in Teaching. I have met all of the requirements to begin teaching secondary education in Utah through the Alternative Routes to Licensure program, including the background check. My strengths are personalized instruction and science-based instruction. I feel comfortable tutoring any subject and any grade level except for the higher level math classes (anything above pre-algebra).
15 minutes may not seem like it would be enough time to really make a difference, but I have found that when the student and the tutor both come prepared anything longer than 15 minutes usually ends up being a lot of downtime. 30 minute sessions are $9, 45 min are $13, and 60 min are $16.
