My name is Christine. I am a substitute teacher in Wasatch County Schools, a recent graduate of Brigham Young University and the seventh of eight children. I have worked for the North Carolina Outward Bound School and currently substitute teach.
I am not a certified teacher, and I do not believe that certification is necessary to help a child learn to love reading. I do not offer any kind of special program. I strongly believe that children in the current education paradigm are over-programmed and under-served.
The best way to help a child learn to love reading is to read aloud to them early and often. That said, life is busy and not all parents can find time to read to their children as often as they would like. One-on-one, side-by-side reading is near impossible in crowded classrooms with over-worked teachers.
I offer read-aloud services to children and young adults between the ages of 3 and 15. I am available weeknights and Saturdays to come to your home. Though I love children and care about their nurturing and comfort, I am not a babysitting service and request that students be encouraged to eat and take care of other personal care matters either before or after my visits. I also request that a parent or other close relative be present in the home during my visits.
