For beginners we study out of a Hal Leonard's guitar method and learn standard notation (music notes), theory, rhythm, and technique. I focus on technique to streamline the students progress and enjoyment. The guitar is a deeply personal instrument that lends the player creative exploration and innovation. This is why technique is the most important aspect for beginning students. For intermediate and advanced students we focus on song repetoir, speed, technique, theory, and song writing. I write my own music and perform locally in Salt Lake. I can teach singing while playing the guitar which focuses on rhythm, muscle memory, and technique.
I try to nurture the passion for guitar in each student, especially the younger students who are still exploring their possibilities. We have fun while learning music–as it should be! I try to make the lessons unique to each student and incorporate games, rewards, and performance opportunities to create a fun learning experience.
I have a fairly open schedule as this is my career and attend school two days a week.
