My name is Mitch , I live in Beryl Utah. I have been training horses full time for the last four years. I start horses and mules by doing ground work for thirty days . The ground work involves training them to back up , side pass, trot and lope in big and small circles , and also to gain their trust. I start them with a snaffle bit and start riding them after the thirty days of ground work. During the second month of training , I teach them to back up , side pass , lope in figure eights, trot in small circles, quick stops, and to give to the bit. By the end of the second month of training they will also have a handful of desert rides which helps them to be ready for trail rides. Towards the end of three months of training they usually pick up riegning and do well with spinning, stopping, and switching leads. I recommend three months of training for all horses I train because at that point they have gained confidence and can be used for trail rides and arena work. If you want your horse to be ready for roping , cutting, or 4 h events, I recommend six to eight months of training. Thank you for your time.
