Guitar I – 2015
6th Graders and Up
(Blues, Country, Folk, Rock)
These privat lessons will meet once a week during the summer either at your home (if you live close) or mine. If you are under eighteen years of age a chaperone will be needed. This class is designed for students with no experience. The fee is $30 per month plus students are responsible for all equipment.
Topics will include: parts of a guitar and accessories, tuning, basic music, chord diagrams, basic chords, power chords, chord progressions, rhythm, strumming patterns, types of music, types and quality of guitars, circle of 5ths, several songs, and perhaps some harmonica.
° a 6-string guitar -- new: $130 & up, used: much, much less (acoustic or electro-acoustic preferred, electric acceptable)
° a tuner -- $25 or less (vibration preferred, audio acceptable)
° a few picks – a few dollars (varying thicknesses, mostly thin-to-medium)
° a folder -- $1 or less (to be expanded into a binder with time)
° a capo ($20 or less)
Notes: many stores have starter kits where you can spend $150 or less that has most of the items you will need included.
Optional Equipment (listed by priority):
° a chord book (with chord diagrams)
° a guitar case (hard or combination preferred, soft acceptable)
° a guitar strap -- $12.50 & up (comfortable)
° a music stand (for home use)
° a guitar stage stand (for home use)
° a guitar book with favorite songs (chords and tablature)
° a 3-ring binder (with alpha tabs)
