I will be starting my 3rd year of teaching. I have worked with students from a variety of backgrounds and levels. I have remediated for students that are several concepts or years behind and seen success. I am confident that as I get to know your student, I can find ways to fill in learning gaps according to their learning style. I will present material in several ways, usually hands-on, visual or scenerio. I use a scafolding approach where I bring together concepts the student already understands, then use what they understand to build on new topics, always emphasising that there are several "right" ways to solve a problem. After understanding in the concept is secure, I apply their understanding to the algorithm, or have them discover the algorithm themself. This approach will have students making their own conjectures when faced with math senerios they have not seen before, or real life situations. I strive to replace fear and frustration with confidence and enjoyment. I enjoy teaching most when I see turn around in a student that struggles. I believe all students have high aptitudes, unfortunatly our educational system isn't always able to reach each student's potential. Working with students one-on-one can help bring out those aptitudes that might otherwise be dismissed in a large classroom.
I start tutoring off with a free consultation. I like to get to know you and the student first, and find out what it is you are looking for. From there, I will build a program that works for you and your student.
