My name is Angela Snow Romney, I graduated Cum Lade from the UVU Music Department with a BS in Music, vocal emphasis. I am passionate about music and music education. I have played the flute since 5th grade and while at UVU, I was trained classically. I was able to learn to sing in many languages including French, German, Italian, Spanish, Latin and several oriental languages. I truly believe that being trained classically is the basis of all other types of singing. I would love to have the opportunity to share my love and passion for music with you or your children. I have written 2 original children’s operas and volunteered in the public school system for many years teaching music. While at UVU, I received a grant from Dr. K. Newell Dayley, UVU School of the Arts Dean, to provide a free music workshop for 30 children during the summer of 2012.
I have been teaching privately for several years and truly enjoy sharing my knowledge of music with others. I have taught both flute and voice in my home and have a private studio in my home with no distractions.
My ultimate goal is to instill in others the true love of music and to teach my students to read and understand music. I teach basic music theory with all of my lessons. While I am willing to teach 30 minute lessons each week, I prefer teaching 45 minutes per week so we can spend the extra time learning music, music theory, and reading and understanding music.
Studies have shown that students that learn music are more successful in school. From the May issue of the Journal of Educational Psychology (Vol. 98, No. 2), "organized music lessons appear to benefit children's IQ and academic performance--and the longer the instruction continues, the larger the effect." I have witnessed this as a student, as a teacher, as a mother, and a mentor.
