I have been teaching music professionally for several years to students of all ages in both private and classroom settings. After graduating with a saxophone performance degree in 2007, I taught music theory, ear training, jazz, and saxophone at Brigham Young University-Idaho for two years. I then moved to Utah to run the band program at Spanish Fork’s American Leadership Academy for the next three years. Boise’s Fresco Arts Academy pulled me back to Idaho when they offered me an exciting position working with some of the most talented and creative young musicians in the Northwest. One year later, upon Fresco’s transition from private school to public, I now find myself back in Salt Lake City teaching music classes at Alianza Academy.
I am eager to build a studio that promotes creativity as much as technicality. Because music is an expression of the soul and a valuable means of connecting with others, I feel that music education should involve more than simply reading notes on a page. It is my goal to help students tap into the joy of expressing themselves and working with others in ways that resonate with their personal musical interests.
I hope to hear from you soon!
