My name is Ryan, and I offer private music lessons on violin, viola, and piano. For the past 8 years I lived in New York City, working there are a freelance violist and a music teacher. As a performer I played with a number of different groups, including chamber ensembles, orchestras, and opera companies. I have also performed as a soloist in Minneapolis and in Salt Lake City.
My teaching experience is extensive: While in New York I maintained a private studio of about a dozen students on violin, viola, and piano, ranging in age from 4 to 60. Parents of my younger students were continually impressed with and pleased by my ability to make lessons fun, and my firm yet gentle approach. I also taught at Poly Prep Country Day School, in Brooklyn, for two years as their middle school strings instructor, and I worked with the Brooklyn Youth Music Project, leading sectional rehearsals and coaching chamber ensembles.
Although I loved the time I spent in New York, ultimately I decided to come back to Salt Lake - the hustle and bustle of the city was getting to be too much for me, and I missed being near the mountains!
I'm now accepting violin and viola students of all ages and all levels of experience, as well as beginner piano students. I'm also available to coach chamber music ensembles, music theory tutoring, and for performances of any kind.
Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions, or if you just want to chat. You're welcome to stop by for a trial lesson, no cost and no obligation, just a chance for us to meet and decide if I'd be a good match for you.
