My design work is based on 1 simple principle.
Our culture is driven by stats. Sports, business, and yes, even home design are “stats driven”. The focus is on square feet, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, size of yard...
“Life driven” design is an essential element of creating a home. If a house does not reflect the values and lifestyle of those who live inside its walls it fails to be a home.
Getting to know an individual or family allows me to understand what is most important to them. Which features and spaces of a home should be given more attention and which should be reduced or eliminated?
When we trim back the excess we are able to focus more on those elements of a home that meet our specific needs and enrich our lives.
You wouldn’t buy pants or shoes that were too big or too small so why live in a home doesn’t fit?
In addition to the financial impact of higher mortgage payments and monthly utilities, having a home that is too large can complicate our lives. Too much space causes us to rationalize acquiring and holding onto, things that dilute our lives.
Not having enough space can be just as crippling. If a home is free of excess and clutter and still feels cramped when playing with kids or running a home business more space is in order.
Many people are ready to right size their homes and lives, others need a little help. Along with designing new homes, additions and remodels I provide education and resources to help people to simplify their lives and reduce the impact of excess and clutter.
It's time to get more out of life. It's time to THRIVE
